Currently (2023), new DALI products are only certified according to the DALI2 standard.
DALI-2 certification
The DALI-2 certification programme is based on DALI-2 test specifications produced by DiiA. These test specifications are derived either from the relevant parts of IEC 62386, the international DALI standard, or from new specifications written by DiiA.
Certified products have successfully passed the DALI 2 certification process, including verification by DiiA. Such products qualify for use of the DALI-2 marks. Only certified products can carry the DALI-2 marks (word mark or DALI-2 logo) and only DiiA members can certify their DALI-2 products. DALI-2 certification promises significantly improved interoperability and additional functionality compared to DALI version 1 devices currently on the market.
DALI-2 certification involves independent verification of test results. In contrast, the conformity of DALI version 1 products is based solely on self-declaration, which has led to interoperability problems in the market.
New products are thus only allowed to display the DALI2 logo if the respective products have been tested and approved by DALI.
DALI-1
Reversed for the former DALI (1) standard:
With the classic (old) DALI standard (the usual DALI logo), it was not necessary to submit test results for review unless specifically requested by the DALI Alliance. However, basic checks of product information were made (GTIN, product name, test sequence version and IEC parts).
The products could also be registered with DALI without obtaining the corresponding certification.
Whether the technical standard was really complied with can therefore not be clearly assessed, as basically anyone was allowed to use the DALI logo.
Why is it important to use DALI-2?
Since there is no guarantee that DALI-1 products adhere to the set standards (communication, response time of telegrams, etc.), malfunctions of the luminaires cannot be ruled out. With DALI-2 products, it is ensured that they have been properly tested and therefore comply with the DALI-2 guidelines.
Where can you check whether your product is certified or not?
You can check whether your product is certified or not at the following link: https://www.dali-alliance.org/products.
If your product is not listed there, it has not been registered/certified with DALI.
Conversely, you can see whether certification exists or the product is only registered.
Please note, as described above, that DALI-1 products that are certified according to the listing do not guarantee that all standards are met! This is only and exclusively the case with DALI-2.
